A free weekly intelligence brief for the global search and rescue community
About SAR Times
SAR Times is a free weekly intelligence brief for the global search and rescue community. Every Thursday, we deliver a curated digest of approximately 12 stories drawn from across the SAR world to keep you informed without spending hours hunting down the news yourself.
What You Get Each Week
Each Tuesday, we publish a standalone article (not emailed) covering some aspect of search and rescue from local policies to international mandates to potential issues from weather. We just wrote a draft on SAR animals.
Each Thursday we send out the weekly newsletter with information on:
- Active Cases & Operations: notable rescues, ongoing incidents, and operational lessons from the field
- Technology & Innovation: drones, AI, new equipment, and emerging tools are reshaping how SAR teams operate
- Policy & Regulatory Developments: legislation, agency updates, and interoperability news affecting the SAR sector
- Community News: training, certifications, unit milestones, and the people behind the missions (drop us a line, email at the bottom)
And on the first Wednesday of the month we publish the Monthly Regulatory Previea, listing the regulatory or regional SAR related meetings we know about. This helps all of us stay on track with who's doing what.
Who It Is For
SAR Times is written for SAR professionals and volunteers across every discipline: mountain rescue, maritime SAR, wilderness and backcountry, urban search and rescue, aviation SAR, Coast Guard(s), and more. It is equally useful for emergency managers, SAR coordinators, and anyone who cares about where this field is headed.
About the Editor
SAR Times is edited by Ryan Erickson, whose background spans Coast Guard SAR planning, policy, and emergency management, which lends to giving the brief the operational perspective that desk-bound news coverage often misses. Ryan is also the Chief Data Officer with the International Association of Search and Rescue Controllers (IASARC).
